The film has also been pre-sold in France (Ocean), Germany (Senator) and Italy (BIM).
The film has its Cannes debut on Saturday and HanWay will host a private buyers screening mid-week.
Axiom already acquired a significant proportion of Wenders' previous work, sold via HanWay's library, including all his early films. Axiom's director of acquisitions Rocio
Freire-Bernat said: 'We are delighted with this acquisition, which represents a logical extension of our long term objective of developing a library of high-quality
films from both emerging and established filmmakers, and especially pleased to be continuing our association with Wim Wenders, a filmmaker we admire greatly'.
The film, the first that Wenders shot in his hometown of Dusseldorf, stars German punk singer Campino as a famous photographer who travels to Sicily in search of a new life. The cast also includes Giovanna Mezzogiorno, Dennis Hopper, Milla Jovovich, and Lou Reed.
Wenders also produced with Gian-Piero Ringel for Neue Road Movies in collaboration with broadcasters ZDF and Arte, and Pictorion Das Werk with backing from Filmstiftung NRW, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the Province of Palermo (AAPIT). Jeremy Thomas of HanWay and RPC executive produced.
HanWay's Cannes sales slate also includes Danis Tanovic's Triage, John Maybury's Wuthering Heights and Geoff Sax's Black Death.
