Lena Headey, Sean Bean and Rupert Friend will lead the cast of supernature chiller Black Death for UK producers Ecosse Films.
Christopher Smith (Creep, Severance) will direct. Ecosse’s Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae will produce with Egoli Tossell’s Jens Meurer co-producing.
Black Death will shoot entirely on location in Germany and the UK.
HanWay Films will be selling the project, introducing it to buyers at next week’s European Film Market.
Dario Poloni’s script is set in an apocalyptic medieval world where a young monk (Friend) joins a group of mercenaries headed by a priest (Bean) who try to stamp out evil, and encounter a powerful village ruler (Headey).
‘Dario Poloni’s highly original screenplay appealed to me as a fan of the genre. Coupled with it’s edgy characters, thought provoking material and kinetic action scenes it’s a very exciting project to be directing,’ Sax said.
Bernstein added, ‘I am delighted to be working with Geoff Sax on what is a highly original film. Geoff will bring a verve and intensity to a remarkable script with a shocking and unpredictable climax.’
HanWay previously worked with Ecosse projects Becoming Jane,Brideshead Revisited and the newly announced Wuthering Heights.
HanWAy’s EFM slate also includes Gerald McMorrow’s Franklyn, Michael Winterbottom’s Genova, and Gorillaz documentary Bananaz.
