Highland Film Group heads into the virtual Cannes market next month with worldwide sales rights to the completed supernatural thriller Warhunt starring Mickey Rourke.
Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga, The Last Airbender), and Robert Knepper (Jack Reacher, Hunger Games franchises) also star in the film, which shot in Riga, Latvia, and is directed by Mauro Borrelli (The Recall) from a screenplay he co-wrote with Reggie Keyohara III (The Recall).
Rourke (The Wrestler, Iron Man 2) plays a military commander who dispatches an elite team on a deadly rescue mission after a Second World War cargo plane crashes.
Under attack from a horrifying supernatural force, the soldiers race to uncover the truth before the Nazis, and remove all evidence that it ever existed.
The cast includes Alex Mills (Vikings, Pennyworth), Josh Burdett (Loving Vincent, Find Me In Paris), and Aglaya Tarasova.
Forma Pro Films’ Yulia Zaytseva, Igor Pronin, Max Pavlov, and Svetlana Punte produced Warhunt alongside Adel Nur and Yu-Fai Suen. Rami Jaber serves as executive producer with Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser and COO Delphine Perrier.
“Mickey, Robert, and Jackson capture the essence of urgency and panic when their characters of hardnosed WWII soldiers are put to the test,” said Fraser. ”It’s a dynamic, scary game of life and death that worldwide audiences will enjoy.”
Perrier added, ”Performances full of conflict, bravery, and terror from Mickey, Robert, and Jackson have you rooting for the heroes. With many twists and turns, and a shocking ending – the audience won’t see what’s coming next.”
Highland’s production and sales slate includes Renny Harlin’s The Misfits starring Pierce Brosnan, Nick Cannon, and Tim Roth; Gasoline Alley with Bruce Willis, Luke Wilson, and Devon Sawa; Supercell starring Alec Baldwin; Mark Neveldine’s Panama with Cole Hauser and Mel Gibson; and Randall Emmett’s Wash Me In The River with Robert De Niro, Jack Huston, and John Malkovich.
