Thailand’s Sahamongkolfilm International has sold action title Ong Bak 2, starring Tony Jaa, to France’s EuropaCorp and Aurum for Spain.

EuropaCorp picked up international rights outside Asia to the first Ong Bak film which was a box office success in France.

Magnolia Pictures, which also acquired the first Ong Bak, took US rights to the sequel at this year’s European Film Market, while Klockworx recently re-signed for Japanese rights. A third installment in the franchise is currently in production.

Sahamongkol is also launching a slate of new action titles at Cannes – including Raging Phoenix, starring Chocolate actress Jija Yanin, which is currently in production and scheduled for a Thai release in August.
