Media Asia Films has announced that it is producing a $4.5m (HK$35m) film about martial arts legend Bruce Lee, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the late star’s birthday.
Set to start shooting at the end of the June, Bruce Lee, My Brother will be directed by Raymond Yip Wai-man and co-produced by mainland Chinese firms J.A. Media, J-Star Group, Beijing Antaeus Film and Beijing Meng Ze Culture & Media.
Singer-songwriter Aarif Lee, who recently starred in Alex Law’s sleeper hit Echoes Of The Rainbow, will play Lee, while Jennifer Tse will make her debut as Lee’s girlfriend. Upcoming mainland actress, Angela Gong, will also star along with MC Jin, Hanjin, Charles Ying and Wilfred Lau.
Yip has previously directed Hong Kong comedies and action films such as Women From Mars and Anna And The Martial Arts World, and he was also co-director on Peter Ho-sun Chan’s Warlords. Manfred Wong, whose credits including the Young And Dangerous series, is lead producer on the project.
