The 20th International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) will open Nov 22 with Richard Robbins' Operation Homecoming: Writing The Wartime Experience.

This film is based on letters, poems, essays and diary fragments of American soldiers serving in Iraq (via a National Endowment for the Arts programme), set against universal themes from war literature. Beau Bridges and Robert Duvall narrate alongside soldiers themselves.

It will compete in the Joris Ivens competition at IDFA.

IDFA runs Nov 22-Dec 2 and the full programme will be announced Oct 15.
