IFC Films has acquired North American rights to Francois Ozon’s fantasy thriller Ricky following its world premiere in Berlin.
Adapted from the short story Moth by the English novelist Rose Tremain, Ricky centres on a unique little boy and the struggles of a working-class single parent in contemporary France.
Alexandra Lamy and Sergi Lopez star and Chris Bolzli, Claudie Ossard and Vieri Razzini produced.
IFC plans a 2010 release after director of acquisitions and co-productions Lizzie Nastro brokered the deal with Elisabeth Perlie from Le Pacte.
“Ricky is a one-of-a-kind movie from one of the most unique voices in world cinema today, Francois Ozon,” IFC Entertainment president Jonathan Sehring said. “It’s a film filled with surprises, wonderful special effects and most importantly heart.”
