IFC Films has acquired US rights to David Weaver’s The Samaritan, starring Samuel L Jackson, Luke Kirby, Ruth Negga and Tom Wilkinson.

Andras Hamori produces with Weaver, Suzanne Cheriton and Tony Wosk.

Executive producers are Mark Musselman, Lacia Kornylo, Mark Horowitz, Jackson, Eli Selden, Geoffrey Brant, James Atherton and Jan Pace.

Weaver also wrote the screenplay with Elan Mastai.

Jackson plays a man who gets out of prison whose goal for a new life is complicated by the son of his former partner.

The film was backed by Telefilm Canada, OMDC and the Harold Greenberg Fund.

The deal was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, SVP of Acquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Maren Olson and Doug Stone at Traction Media and Mark Horowitz on behalf of H2O Motion Pictures and Quickfire Fims.

H2O Motion Pictures handles foreign sales, and deals include eOne in Canada, ARD/Degeto in Germany, Nordisk in Scandinavia, Ascot Elite in Switzerland, Video Vision in South Africa, Pris in Portugal, Frontrow in the Middle East, Audiovisual in Greece, and Prorom in Romania.
