Gerardo Naranjo’s Mexican New Wave film I’m Going To Explode will open the 20th AFI Latin American Film Festival from September 23-October 12 in Silver Spring, Maryland.
All in all more than 30 films from around 20 Latin American countries will screen, including the centrepiece presentation Beyond Ipanema: Brazilian Waves In Global Music and the Spain-Mexico closing night entry Just Walking from Agustin Diaz Yanes.
Other titles include Pablo Larrain’s festival hit Tony Manero from Chile, La Tigra, Chaco and The Window from Argentina, Elephant’s Cemetery from Bolivia, Omerta from Cuba, and Oblivion from Peru.
This year the line-up includes films from Portugal and Spain as festival organisers strive to strengthen Ibero-American ties. Portuguese entry The Northern Land is among the entries.
