Disney executives have announced that Marvel Studios’ summer blockbuster Iron Man 3 passed $1bn at the worldwide box office on Thursday [16].
The film will cross $700m on Friday and as of Thursday stood at $698.9m. The North American tally stands at $301.9m. The actual worldwide total is $1.0008bn.
Iron Man 3 becomes the second Marvel Studios release to reach the milestone after Marvel’s The Avengers and the sixth Disney release to do so after Avengers, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Alice In Wonderland, Toy Story 3 and Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
It is the fourth biggest superhero film in history and the 16th biggest release globally.
Iron Man 3 has reached $104m in China, which has been by far the most lucrative market. South Korea has generated $56.2m, the UK $50m and Mexico $44m.
