Imagina has secured a number of sales on Daniel Sanchez Arevalo’s Fat People (Gordos) and Isabel Coixet’s Map Of The Sounds Of Tokyo, which are both competing to be Spain’s entrant for the foreign-langugage Oscar.
Arevalo’s comedy drama Fat People (Gordos) about fat people overcoming prejudices, starring Antonio De La Torre and Raul Arevalo, has been sold to Arsenal Filmverleih for distribution in German-speaking Europe and to Archibald for Italy. The film has already made $1.4m at the Spanish box office after just two weeks of release through Alta Films.
Coixet’s Map Of The Sounds Of Tokyo, about a fishmonger living a double life as an assasin, has been sold to Alamote for German-speaking Europe, LeopArt for Russia and Monolith for Poland. Imagina is in advanced negotiations for Benelux, Greece, Turkey and Portugal. The film, which premiered at Cannes, has already made $2.6m in Spain, also through Alta.
Meanwhile, Imagina has also sold Patxi Amezcua’s Spanish thriller 25 Carat to Kino Swiat for Poland, The US and remake rights are still under negotiation. The film is currently showing in the Made In Spain section of the San Sebastian Film Festival.
