Spanish sales company Imagina has confirmed deals for Daniel Sanchez Arevalo’s popular Spanish comedy Gordos (pictured) in Brazil, Mexico, Italy, Germany and Hungary following the American Film Market last month.
The film, which had its world premiere at Venice in September, has sold to Paris Filmes (Brazil), Quality Films (Mexico), Arsenal (Germany), Archibald (Italy) and Cirko Films (Hungary).
The film is about fat people overcoming prejudices and stars Raul Arevalo and Antonio De La Torre, who recently picked up the best actor award at the Monte-Carlo Film Festival for his performance.
Backed by Tesela and major Spanish broadcaster TVE, Gordos has already made a healthy $3m at the box office in Spain so far.
Arevalo is also currently involved as the scriptwriter of Oscar Santos Gomez’ hotly anticipated drama El Mal Ajeno, starring Eduardo Noriega and Belen Rueda, which is currently in post and is being produced by Alejandro Amenabar.
