The Dark Knight will open in 94 North American and 15 international IMAX theatres on July 18, day-and-date with Warner Bros' conventional launch.

A further 23 international IMAX sites will accommodate the release in the weeks following the worldwide premiere, which is set to take place on July 14 at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 in New York with IMAX, the first time an IMAX cinema has hosted the world premiere of a Hollywood release.

IMAX Corporation has reported intense demand for tickets to Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins sequel. Advance ticket sales have exceeded $2m and some theatres have scheduling 24-hour screenings to meet high customer demand.

'Chris Nolan's enthusiasm for IMAX technology has taken Hollywood film-making to a new level, and we're thrilled with the results on the screen and by the positive reactions to advance screenings,' IMAX Filmed Entertainment chairman and president Greg Foster said.

'Warner Bros Pictures, together with Chris Nolan and the entire filmmaking team, have created an unprecedented filmmaking event that can't be missed, and we are honoured to be a part of the excitement.'
