IMAX Corp. and PatheNetherlands have signed an agreement to install an IMAX MPX theatre system inthe nation's largest multiplex, Amsterdam's Pathe Arena.
It will be the firstlarge-format screen in city, and the first in the nation capable of handling thecompany's DMR conversions of Hollywood films.
The new cinema is expectedto open in late spring, in time to showcase the standard large-format and DMRfilms at the annual Cinema Expo conference in Amsterdam, June 27-30, 2005. TheIMAX cinema in the Hague, while one of the highest grossing IMAX cinemas inEurope, is not DMR-capable.
"IMAX has established itselfas the newest distribution platform for blockbuster Hollywood films, with IMAXDMR releases posting impressive results around the world," said Lauge Nielsen,managing director of Pathe Netherlands, in a statement. He said placing an MPX system as ananchor for the multiplex would prove a cost-effective method to increase theattractiveness of a top-performing location.
Pathe Netherlands, which operatesnine out of ten of the nation's highest-grossing multiplexes, is a subsidiaryof European exhibitor EuroPalaces.
