The Jameson Dublin International Film Festival in association withWaltDisneyStudios Motion Pictures (Ireland) have announced that Sonya Gildea's script Faith has won the inaugural 'Write Here, Write Now' screenwriting award.
The judging panel also gave an honourable mention to Rodney Lee for his script Do Not Pass Go.
The 'Write Here, Write Now' award was established to acknowledge the creation of original and innovative scripts with a combination of development funding of Eu7,500, and active promotion within the film industry.
The judging panel comprised director Lenny Abrahamson, United Talent Agency's David Flynn, actor John Hurt, Trish Long of Walt Disney Motion Pictures Ireland, Film4's Sue Bruce Smith and writer and director Irvine Welsh.
Panel chair Trish Long said, 'I was delighted at the variety and quality of the submitted scripts, we obviously have many stories to tell. I was also really pleased at how fresh not just the stories, but the voices telling those stories were.'
Prize winner Sonya Gildea has extensive production experience in the industry in Ireland and has written and directed several short films in recent years.
