Inaugural London Indian Film Festival planned for July

This July will see a new film festival come to London celebrating all things independent about the Indian film industry.

The inaugural London Indian Film Festival will run from July 15-20 and will take place in cinemas across London. Dibakar Banerjee’s fairy tale romance Love, Sex Aur Dhokha (Love, Sex and Betrayal) will open the festival with a screening at Cineworld, Haymarket.

Following its world premiere at Berlin, Vihir (The Well) by award winning director Umesh Kulkarni will close the festival. Other films scheduled to screen at the festival include Mahesh Manjrekar’s City Of Gold and Amit Rai’s Road to Sangam.

“Apart from just showing great movies, we also aim to help get these film talked about and screened more broadly in cinemas in the UK, in the same way that Iranian cinema has been,” said festival director, Cary Rajinder Sawhney.

The Satyajit Foundation’s Ray Short Film Competition will also take place at the festival with the winning film maker receiving a £1,000 award on July 20.
