London-based sales and production outfit Independent has picked up international rights to award-winning director Hattie Dalton’s first feature Barafundle Bay.
The film has been written by Vaughan Sivell, produced by Sivell and Kelly Broad and executive produced by Margaret Matheson, Pauline Burt and Nigel Thomas. The cast includes Tom Burke, Benedict Cumberbatch, JJ Field and newcomer Adam Robertson.
The film is billed as “the uplifting and often hilarious story of four childhood friends who take an ill-advised camping trip to the farthest reaches of West Wales.”
It is produced by Western Edge Pictures and backed by the Film Agency Wales, Matador Pictures and BBC Wales. Shooting is already underway in Wales. Independent is handling international sales. The script was on the ‘Brit List’ of recommended unproduced screenplays in 2008.
Independent will be introducing the film to international buyers at the American Film Market, Santa Monica, next month.
Dalton won a BAFTA for her short film The Banker.
