Reliance MediaWorks has appointed Ashok Ganapathy to the newly created post of CEO of its multinational exhibition arm BIG Cinemas.
Reporting to Reliance MediaWorks CEO Anil Arjun, Ganapathy will head BIG Cinema’s global operations and be responsible for the organisation’s strategy and growth.
He formerly headed operations at India’s Spencer Retail, a network of 220 stores owned by major conglomerate RPG Group. Prior to RPG, he spent 19 years with the Unilever Group in India and Vietnam.
Arjun said: “We are blending a retail-centric approach with cinema to bring an innovative evolution to the movie-going experience and Ashok’s strong experience and deep knowledge in retail and consumer operations would bring in a unique perspective on delivering strategic solutions to our consumers.”
Big Cinemas operates more than 550 screens across India, the US, Malaysia, Nepal and the Netherlands.
