India’s UTV has struck a long-term exclusive deal with Warner Bros International Television Distribution (WBITD) to screen multiple blockbusters on its UTV Action and UTV Action Telugu channels.
The Hindi-language UTV Action channel will have access to 60 action films a year from the Warner Bros library, while UTV Action Telugu, which broadcasts in the Telugu language, will have access to 50 titles a year.
Titles included in the deal include The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, The Dark Knight, Shoot Them Up, Most Wanted, Cradle To The Grave, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, Blue Sea and Golden Compass. The films will be dubbed into Hindi and Telugu.
UTV’s channel offering also includes UTV Movies for Hindi films, UTV World Movies, youth-oriented UTV Bindass and the recently-launched UTV Stars, which is an entertainment channel dedicated to Bollywood.
Disney is a majority shareholder in UTV and is currently in the process of buying out the company from public shareholders and its founders Ronnie Screwvala and Zarina Mehta.
