The Italian-American actress and director will serve as president of the Jury for the 61st Berlin International Film Festival, set to run from February 10-20, 2011.

Festival director Dieter Kosslick said the news was “fantastic”, adding: “[Rossellini] is a multifaceted, creative film artist with extensive experience in European, American and international cinema.”

Rossellini, the daughter of Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini, started her career as a fashion designer and journalist before her acting debut in 1976 alongside her mother in Vincente Minelli’s A Matter Of Time.

She went on to star in films by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Norman Mailer, Joel Schumacher, John Schlesinger, Peter Weir, Abel Ferrara, Guy Maddin, Peter Greenaway and many others. Her appearances in David Lynch’s Blue Velvet and Wild At Heart brought her international fame.

Rossellini first attended the Berlinale in 1994 in Peter Weir’s competition entry Fearless and has returned several times, presenting her directorial debut Green Porno in the Forum Expanded section of the 2008 festival.
