The UK’s Third Window Films has snapped up Isn’t Anyone Alive?, directed by Gakuryu Ishii, which is being handled internationally by Japan’s Phantom Film Co.
Gakuryu Ishii was previously known as Sogo Ishii, the director of Electric Dragon 80.000 V and Labyrinth Of Dreams, who decided to change his name to mark a fresh start after a ten-year filmmaking hiatus.
Starring newcomer Shota Sometani, the film is an adaptation of an award-winning absurd play of the same name by Shiro Maeda. Sometani was jointly awarded the best young actor prize at Venice last year, along with Fumi Kikaido, for their performance in Sion Sono’s Himizu.
Isn’t Anyone Alive? is scheduled for release in Japan in autumn 2012.
