James Cameron will receive the Visual Effects Society’s VES Lifetime Achievement Award at the 8th Annual VES Awards in Los Angeles on February 28, 2010.
Cameron, whose sci-fi adventure Avatar is set to open worldwide through Fox next month, will collect the honour in recognition of his “vision and dedication to the craft of storytelling while being at the creative forefront of ground breaking visual effects.”
Cameron’s credits include the multi-Oscar winner Titanic, as well as Terminator, Aliens, True Lies, Terminator 2 and The Abyss.
In a separate announcement, Cameron will receive the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s highest honour, The Lucky Brand Modern Master Award.
The tribute will take place on February 6, 2010. The award was established in 1995 to honour an individual “who has enriched our culture through his/her multi-faceted accomplishments in the motion picture industry.”
