Howard’s work will be showcased at the event, which will also see Italian composer Pino Donaggio receiving the World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award.
US composer James Newton Howard is to be honoured at the 12th World Soundtrack Awards, which will be held as part of the Ghent Film Festival on October 20.
Howard most recently scored The Hunger Games. With eight Oscar nominations, his credits include King Kong, The Sixth Sense, The Fugitive and Pretty Woman.
A programme of his film music will be performed by the renowned Brussels Philharmonic and be accompanied by select film clips. The concert will be conducted by both Howard and Dirk Brossé.
In addition, Italian composer Pino Donaggio will be receiving the World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award. Donaggio is a frequent collaborator of director Brian De Palma and has scored the filmmaker’s Carrie, Home Movies, Dressed To Kill, Blow Out, Body Double and Raising Cain. He will also be scoring De Palma’s upcoming feature Passion.
The 39th edition of the Ghent Film Festival runs October 9 – 20.
