Nagasaki Shunichi's Heart, Beating In The Dark will open the35th Rotterdam International Film Festival (January 25-February 5).

Festival director Sandra den Hamer called the film "an extraordinary, multilayeredstatement on cinema itself."

Heart, BeatingIn The Dark is part remake and part sequel to Nagasaki's own film of the sametitle from 1982. The principal actors from the 1982 film also appear in the2005 version, but with a new young couple on the run.

Arthouse favourite Shunichi is alsosubject to a major retrospective at the festival.
