Jeremy Thomas to be honoured by Academy

Thomas won the Oscar in 1987 for The Last Emperor.
 
The evening will feature clips from his films and personal remarks from friends, colleagues and admirers. Tom Conti will act as host of the evening and among those participating in the evening are actors John Hurt, Keira Knightley and Michael Fassbender, director Stephen Frears, producer Eric Fellner, screenwriter Christopher Hampton and Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux.
 
Thomas, who heads Recorded Picture Company, has been making movies since the 1970s, starting with Mad Dog Morgan with director Philippe Mora in Australia in 1976. Returning to the UK, he began a series of collaborations with great directors including The Shout with Jerzy Skolomowski in 1978, Bad Timing with Nicolas Roeg in 1980, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence with Nagisa Oshima in 1983, The Hit with Frears in 1984 and Naked Lunch with David Cronenberg in 1991.
 
His long relationship with Bernardo Bertolucci began with The Last Emperor in 1987 which won nine Academy Awards.
 
He recently completed A Dangerous Method which marks his third film with Cronenberg. It was written by Hampton from his play The Talking Cure and stars Knightley, Fassbender and Viggo Mortensen.
