'Norman Jewison is an industry treasure,' a statement from the ACE board of directors read. 'Over the course of his 50-year career, he has left an indelible mark on cinema by not only entertaining audiences but also by successfully breaking ground to tell stories of social significance.
'As a film-maker, he has engaged us with song, dance and even silence. His groundbreaking work and his great appreciation of the craft of editing is legendary. We are proud to honour a true master of cinema.'
His credits include In The Heat Of The Night, The Thomas Crown Affair, Fiddler On The Roof, Jesus Christ Superstar, A Soldier's Story, Hurricane and Moonstruck.
Jewison received the Irving G Thalberg Award for his contributions to film-making in 1999.
