South Korea's Lotte Cinema has today opened its third multiplex in Vietnam. The six-screen, 1,400-seat cinema is located in the Phu My Hung (a.k.a. Saigon South) area of Ho Chi Minh city.

The cinema has been opened inside a Lottemart shopping mall. Phu My Hung is a newly developed, affluent neighborhood favoured by expat residents.

Lotte Cinema stated the new multiplex has the newest audio-visual equipment and plenty of legroom between seats. It will be operated with the 'Korean cinema managing know-how we've accumulated over the years'.

Lotte plans to expand its exhibition business in Vietnam concentrating on major cities. CEO Kim Kwang-sup said: 'We plan to rank no. 1 in the Vietnam market in the future.'

Lotte Cinema acquired Diamond Cinema Joint Venture Company (DMC) in May and opened its first cinema in Ho Chi Minh and its second in Danang earlier this year.

Among other businesses, the Lotte conglomerate owns exhibitor Lotte Cinema, distributor Lotte Entertainment, as well as shopping malls, a department store chain and hotel chain.
