Korea’s Showbox has closed a duo of French distribution deals in the early days of the market – selling Breathless to Tadrart Films and The Murderer to Wild Side.
Breathless, directed by and starring Yang Ik-june, is a brutal look into domestic violence in South Korea. It recently won best film and the international critics’ award, at the Deauville Festival of Asian Films.
Tadrart, the company that bought the film, is a production and distribution outfit owned by French filmmakers Rachid Bouchareb and Bruno Dumont.
The Murderer is the second film from Na Hong-jin following hot serial killer thriller The Chaser. Currently in development, it follows the story of a man who in his efforts to pay off a gambling debt falls into a dangerous trap. It recently won the HAF Award for best non-Hong Kong project at the co-production market in Hong Kong.
Showbox picked up a trio of titles on the eve of the market – art heist mystery Insadong Scandal, hardcore thriller Missing and omnibus film Five Senses Of Eros.
