The Los Angeles Film Critics Association has selected to honour the director with its 2014 Career Achievement Award.
Lester’s credits include Superman II and A Hard Day’s Night.
“Lester was one of the most innovative and influential directors of the 1960s and ’70s, refashioning our understanding of cinematic language,” LAFCA president Stephen Farber tweeted.
“With our Career Achievement Award, we have a chance to remind people of the accomplishments of some cinematic masters who are not remembered as well as they should be, and Lester is a prime example of an artist whose work deserves to be rediscovered and celebrated.”
The group will vote on its selections on December 8 and stage its annual awards dinner on January 11, 2014.
