Joaquin Cortes vehicle Gitano and Envy Of Gods by Russian director Vladimir Menshov are among the eight films in competition at the second edition of the European Cinema festival, which will be held in the southern Italian town of Lecce (June 2-9).

Films to be viewed by Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi, the head of jury and fellow members including Edoardo Winspeare, are: Fading Light by Greece's Vassilis Douros, Slovenia's Porno Film by Damjan Kozole, L'Italiano by Ennio De Dominicis, Yugoslavia's Mechanism and Austrian film

Come Sweet Death. All titles will receive their Italian premiere at the festival.

Guests at the event will include director of photography Vittorio Storaro and two veteran masters of light Italian comedy: Ettore Scola and Mario Monicelli.

Sidebars include a retrospective on Spain's Carlos Saura and the late Italian comic actor Ugo Tognazzi, and a tribute to Polish cinema.
