Mike Leigh andUS producer Alan Ladd Jr will each receive the Joseph Plateau Award for theiroutstanding achievements in filmmaking at the upcoming Flanders InternationalFilm Festival.
Leigh willreceive his award from Imelda Staunton, the Oscar nominated star of his 2004drama Vera Drake.Leigh's other credits include Naked, High Hopes, Secrets And Lies, and Topsy-Turvy.
Ladd Jr won thebest picture Oscar with Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey for Braveheart in 1996 and has enjoyed a career asproducer and studio executive spanning five decades. During his tenure aspresident of Twentieth Century Fox he greenlit Star Wars, Alien, TheTowering Inferno, Norma Rae and All That Jazz, among others.
Ladd Jr's mostrecent picture, Lasse Hallstrom's An Unfinished Life, will receive its Benelux premiereduring the festival on Oct 12. The Flanders International Film Festival runs inGhent, Belgium, from Oct 11-22.
