Eugene Levy has joined the cast of the comedy Goon, which Myriad Pictures will introduce to international buyers at AFM.
Seann William Scott, Jay Baruchel, Liev Schreiber and Alison Pill will also star in the tale of a slacker who gets drafted into an ice hockey team and makes a senior player envious.
The film is currently shooting in Winnipeg, Canada. Alliance holds all Canadian rights.
Michael Dowse, whose comedy Fubar: Gods Of Blunder recently premiered in Toronto, is directing. Baruchel and Evan Goldberg wrote the script inspired by the book Goon: The True Story Of An Unlikely Journey Into Minor League Hockey by Doug Smith and Adam Frattasio.
Don Carmody, David Gross and Jesse Shapira are producing.
“Jay and Evan have written a hilarious script that is going to make an equally hilarious and very commercial movie,” Myriad CEO and president Kirk D’Amico said. “Michael Dowse has a wonderful eye for comedy and the cast is just perfect.
“It’s a great pleasure to be working with Don Carmody and David Gross and Jesse Shapira. We’re looking forward to presenting the film to buyers at the American Film Market next week.”
“I am always on the lookout for great comedy scripts, and they are few and far between,” Carmody added. “When I first read Goon, I immediately realised how funny it could be. Even after multiple drafts, re-reading it still makes me laugh out loud.”
