The footprint around TIFF Bell Lightbox has been named in honour of Leslie and Clara Reitman.

Piers Handling, Director and CEO of TIFF, and local Councillor Adam Vaughan officially named the footprint around TIFF Bell Lightbox as Reitman Square on Wednesday.

Located in the hub of Toronto’s entertainment district, the square is named in honour of Leslie and Clara Reitman, the parents of Ivan Reitman, Agi Mandel, and Susan Michaels, who worked with the Daniels Corp to donate the land.

They were on hand for the ceremony, along with Jason Reitman. Handling said:  “Ivan, Agi and Susan’s recognition of their parents’ commitment and vision has played a vital role in the realization of this dream, building a home for film at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

The pair were Czech immigrants to Canada who purchased a car wash on the site in the 1960s. TIFF Bell Lightbox officially opens Sunday.
