The distributor has taken the UK rights to Monty Lapica’s drama.
Lionsgate has snapped up UK rights for award-winning drama Self-Medicated from High Edwards’ UK sales outfit Aspect Film.
The deal was brokered between Lionsgate UK’s MD of Home Entertainment, Nicola Pearcey and Hugh Edwards, Aspect Film’s chief executive.
Australian distribution outfit 21st Century Pictures has also acquired the film; while the North American DVD release is slated for April 20 following its theatrical release
Written, directed and produced by Monty Lapica, Self-Medicated is set on the edges of Las Vegas, where troubled 17-year-old Andrew Eriksen (Lapica) is struggling to cope with the loss of his father. As he becomes embroiled in a world of drugs and violence, the once promising young man is now headed for self-destruction. In a desperate bid to stop his downward spiral, his mother hires a private company to forcibly kidnap and confine him in a psychiatric hospital.
