Three of his films will be shown at the 65th edition, including the newly restored Once Upon A Time In America.
Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan is to be honoured with the Premio Raimondo Rezzonico award for Best Producer at the 65th Locarno Film Festival which runs August 1-11.
Milchan has over 100 feature films to his credit including Sergio Leone’s Once Upon A Time In America, Martin Scorsese’s King Of Comedy and Terry Gilliam’s Brazil, all of which will be shown at the festival.
He will give a lecture on film, open to the public, during the festival.
Artistic director Olivier Père said: “We are delighted to welcome to Locarno one of the last moguls of world cinema, Arnon Milchan, a lover of the arts and a visionary who can facilitate filmmakers in following their wildest dreams, a risk taker and man of passion, whose courage, ambition and taste has enabled some of the most important masterpieces in contemporary cinema”.
The award was established in 2002, in memory of the festival’s chairman for almost twenty years Raimondo Rezzonico.
Previous recipients include Paulo Branco, Ruth Waldburger, Karl Baumgartner, Jeremy Thomas, Menahem Golan and, in 2011, Mike Medavoy.
