Spanish producer Lolafilmsis storming ahead with two Euros 10m English-language productions - includingvenerable helmer Carlos Saura's new film.
Saura, whose current releaseThe 7th Day is being sold at Cannes by Lolafilms, will shoot LorenzoDa Ponte (working title) in Venice and Vienna. The story of Mozart'slibrettist, who was also something of an adventurer, the film is aco-production with Austria's Satel, and is set to start shooting in January,according the Lolafilms chief Andres Vicente Gomez. It will focus on the periodwhen Don Giovanni was written.
Gomez also revealed that thelong-gestating La Fiesta del Chibo (The Feast of the Goat) , whichLolafilms has been prepping for the last two years, will start shooting inSanta Domingo in the Dominican Republic in September. Based on the Maria VargasLlosa about the last days of the Trujillo dictatorship in the DominicanRepublic, the Euros 10m English-language movie will be shot by the writer'scousin Luis Llosa, and is to star Isabella Rossellini and Tomas Milian (Traffic)as the dictator. John Hurt is also in talks to star.
La Fiesta del Chibo is a Spanish-UK co-production with the Britain'sFuture Films. Lolafilms is commencing sales on both that and Lorenzo DaPonte at the Cannes market alongside Saura's The 7th Day, releasedlast month in Spain and looking at a festival slot later this year.
