London’s Hungarian film festival Check The Gate, now in its third year, will focus on the theme of immigration this year. The festival runs June 22-28, first at the Hungarian Culture Centre then at Hammersmith’s Riverside Studios.
Programme highlights will include Tamas Almasi’s football documentary Puskas Hungary; Marta Meszaros’ new feature Last Report on Anna; Peter Forgac’s Hunky Blues about Hungarian immigrants to the US in the early 20th century; and Istvan Szabo’s Sunshine, starring Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz.
Other planned events include an industry day, film education activities, a roundtable discussion on emigration, and an animation workshop co-organized with London Film School.
