Pavel Lounguine's The Wedding (La Noce) picked up top honours, the Aurora award, at this year's Tromso International Film Festival (January 16-21).
One third of the $10,000 award, founded by the Norwegian Film Institute, goes to the film's director, while the rest of the money is earmarked for its Norwegian distributor.
The FIPRESCI main award went to Clara Law's The Goddess Of 1967, although a special mention went to local director Knut Erik Jensen's documentary Cool And Crazy about a male choir in a small town in the Artic.
The Don Quijote Award, given by the International Union of Film Clubs, went to Iranian director Bahman Ghobadi's acclaimed A Time For Drunken Horses. German director Fatih Akin won the Audience Award for romantic comedy In July (Im Juli).
