Van Gogh project seeks to raise £75,000.

The filmmaking team behind Loving Vincent has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise £75,000 by Feb 6. Rewards for backers include having their portrait painted Van Gogh style and made into a 20-second video by the team.

The film is now in the final stages of pre-production, and the Kickstarter money would be used to train 60 painters to work on the project and start painting on the final film.

The project is called “the world’s first feature-length painted animation” and will bring Vincent Van Gogh’s life story to the screen as seen via his paintings.

Producer Hugh Welchman of Poland’s Oscar-winning animation studio BreakThru Films is spearheading the project alongside Trademark Films. Bankside is handling worldwide sales. Dorota Kobiela directs.

It will be completed in 2015, the 125th anniversary of van Gogh’s death.
