The San Sebastian film festival has announced all 11 of its Horizontes Latinos titles, which include Diego Luna’s Abel, Daniel and Diego Vega’s October and Pablo Larrain’s Post Mortem.
Abel (pictured) is leading Mexican actor Luna’s directorial debut and is produced by his acting friend Gael Garcia Bernal. The film, about a troubled young boy forced to look after his family, was well received by critics and audiences at Sundance and Cannes.
Chilean director Larrain’s Post Mortem, his follow up to award winning drama Tony Manero, is about a middle-aged man and his cabaret-singing neighbour who is captured during the 1973 Chilean coup.
The Peruvian Vega brothers’ directorial debut October, a jury prize winner at Cannes, is about a loan shark in Lima whose life is transformed when he has a baby with a prostitute.
Also featuring in the line-up are three of last year’s Films In Progress entrants at San Sebastian: Daniel Hendler’s Uruguay-Argentina drama Norberto’s Deadline, Natalia Smirnoff’s Argentinean drama Puzzles (Rompecabezas) and Paz Fabrega’s Tiger award winner Agua Fria De Mar.
The remaining titles are: Mexican director Sebastian Hiriart’s A Stone’s Throw Away (A Tiro De Piedra); Argentinian Delfina Castagnino’s directorial debut Lo Que Mas Quiero; Diego Lerman’s dark drama The Invisible Eye (La Mirada Invisible), an Argentina-Spain-France co-production; Patricio Guzman’s documentary Nostalgia For The Light (France-Germany-Chile); and Anahi Berneri’s Argentinian drama It’s Your Fault.
