Magnet Releasing has taken worldwide rights to Ben Wheatley’s feature directorial debut Down Terrace ahead of its Slamdance slot.
Magnolia International will be handling foreign sales at Slamdance, Rotterdam and Berlin on the black comedy about a crime family, which recently won best UK feature at Raindance in London and best picture and screenplay at Fantastic Fest in Austin.
Andrew Starke of Boum Productions produced and Steve Coogan and Henry Normal’s Baby Cow Films served as executive producer.
Real-life father and son Bob and Robin Hill play Bill and Karl, heads of a crime family struggling to keep their business together as infighting and a mole threaten to unravel it completely.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a film as smart, clever and totally original as Down Terrace,” Magnolia senior vice-president Tom Quinn said. “It’s The Sopranos meets Once – there’s really nothing else like it.”
Magnolia’s senior vice-president Tom Quinn brokered the deal with Starke.
