Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to Ambush Entertainment’s dark comedy Wonderful World starring Matthew Broderick.
Glenn Williamson, Miranda Bailey and Matt Leutwyler produced writer-director Josh Goldin’s feature directorial debut about a cynical children’s folk singer whose life perspective changes when he befriends his roommate’s sister.
Magnolia will release Wonderful World on VOD one month prior to its theatrical release as part of its Ultra VOD programme, aiming for a theatrical release in early 2010.
“Josh Goldin is a talented screenwriter and judging by his first feature has real directorial chops,” Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles said. “Matthew Broderick is great as always.”
“Ambush is extremely excited to be working with Magnolia Pictures on the release of Wonderful World and are very confident with their release strategy for this heartwarming film,” Ambush’s Bailey added.
Magnolia’s senior vice president Tom Quinn and head of business affairs Chris Matson negotiated the deal with CAA on behalf of the producers.
