Hong Kong filmmaker Pang Ho-cheung’s Making Film Production has signed on producer and film festival programmer Raymond Phathanavirangoon in the new role of development director.
Phathanavirangoon will be responsible for developing co-productions and projects with young directors as well as scouting for new projects.
Established in 2001 by Pang and producer Subi Liang, Making Film’s credits include Pang’s directorial projects such as Isabella, Dream Home and Love In A Puff. Phathanavirangoon previously worked with the company on slasher film Dream Home. His producing credits also include Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang’s Headshot, Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Tokyo Sonata and Boo Junfeng’s Sandcastle.
In addition to Pang’s directorial projects, Making Film has branched out into short films and commercials and also produces films from young filmmakers. The new development director role is designed to enable the company to evolve as a production house for new talent.
Phathanavirangoon will continue to work on his own producing projects which include Boo Junfeng’s upcoming prison drama Apprentice. He is also a delegate for Cannes Critics’ Week and a consultant for the Tribeca and Hong Kong film festivals.
In his new role, he will attend next week’s Taipei Golden Horse Film Project Promotion to pitch Making Film’s The Truth About Lying, the feature debut of commercials director Stanley Liu. The company’s slate also includes projects from Chinese short film director Wang Zizhou and actor/director Chui Tien You.
