Match Factory posts bumper Berlin

German indie powerhouse The Match Factory scored a slew of deals in major markets during Berlin’s European Film Market (EFM) (Feb 5-13).

Among titles to sell around the world were competition winners 45 Years and Victoria.

Andrew Haigh’s 45 Years, which won Silver Bears for stars Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay, has sold in 30 markets, with deals closing in US / Canada (IFC / Sundance Selects), Germany (PIFFL Medien), France (Ad Vitam), Australia /New Zealand (Madman), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Austria (Filmladen), BeNeLux (Cinemien), Japan (AyaPro), Scandinavia (Future Film), Spain (Golem), Italy (Teodora) and Poland (Solopan).

Deals also finalised for Portugal (Alambique), Greece (Seven), Turkey (Bir Film), South Korea (Pancinema), Israel (Lev Films),  Baltics (Must Kasi), Ex-Yugoslavian territories (MCF Megacom), Hong Kong (Edko Films), Austria (Filmladen), Hungary (Cirko Film).

Further territories, including Latin America, are under negotiation.

Sebastian Schipper’s heist thriller Victoria, which won the Silver Bear for cinematographer Sturla Brandth Grøvlen, sold to UK / Eire (Artificial Eye), US (Adopt Films), France (Jour2Fete /Version Originale), Australia/ New Zealand (Madman), CIS and Baltics (A-One Films), BeNeLux (September Film), Denmark (Reel Pictures), Norway (Arthaus), Sweden (TriArt), Czech Republic (Film Europe), former Yugoslavian territories (MCF Megacom), Greece (Seven), Hong Kong (Edko), Portugal (Midas), Taiwan (Filmware), Turkey (Fabula).

Further territories including Canada and Spain are under discussion.

Brazilian drama The Second Mother by Anna Muylaert continued to catch buyers‘ attention with additional territory deals for Australia/ New Zealand (Madman), Benelux (September Films), Greece (Feelgood Entertainment), Hungary (Cirko), Italy (BIM), Portugal (Alambique), Spain (Caramel), Sweden (Folkets Bio), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Taiwan (Maison Motion), Turkey (Filmarti).

More territories, including Germany, are expected to be added in the coming days. Memento had previously secured rights in France while UK/Canada went to Soda and Oscilloscope took US rights.

Andreas Dresen’s drama As We Were Dreaming was another strong seller for the company with deals concluding in France (Sophie Dulac), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Baltics (A-One Films), Greece (Ama Films), former Yugoslav territories (MCF Megacom) and Sweden (TriArt).

Laura Bispuri’s debut feature Sworn Virgin sold to Benelux (Cinemien), former Yugoslav territories (MCF Megacom), Greece (Ama Films) and Portugal (Midas).

Panorma entry Petting Zoo, by first timer Micah Magee, was picked up for Switzerland (Look Now!) and Benelux (Cinemien).

Sonja Heiss’ Hedi Schneider is Stuck went to Taiwan (Maison Motion).

Last minute slate addition Queen of Earth, the Alex Ross Perry drama starring Elisabeth Moss and Katherine Waterstone, was also in demand with deals close in the UK and France.
