Los Angeles-based Maya Entertainment has struck a deal with Blockbuster to present a new curated series of Latin cinema in select American cities.
The series will launch on July 17 and run through September 10.
Maya and Blockbuster will work on an eight-city theatrical release for a slate of 9 Latino-themed films.
The films, curated by Maya’s acquisitions executives Jose Martinez Jr and Tonantzin Esparza, are: The Line, Vicious Circle, Bajo La Sal, Sultanes del Sur, Once Upon A Time In Rio, Cronicas Chilangas, Bad Guys, and Mancora.
Following the theatrical runs, the films will be available for rental at Blockbuster stores starting in September.
“This alliance is the perfect extension of Maya’s mission. With Blockbuster as a partner in this venture, we will extend the reach of this program tenfold and provide the national film going audience with consistent high quality cinema from Latino filmmakers and talent,” said Moctesuma Esparza, founder of Maya Entertainment.
