Maya Entertainment has taken the US rights to the crime thriller The Ministers, starring John Leguizamo and Harvey Keitel
Los Angeles-based producer-distributor will announce a release date shortly.
Florencia Lozano plays a New York detective who encounters a taxi driver with potentially devastating information about her father’s unsolved murder 15 years earlier. Diane Venora, Manny Perez and Wandade Jesus also star.
Franc. Reyes directed the thriller and previously worked with Leguizamo on the 2002 crime drama Empire. Jill Footlick of Grow Pictures produced and Glenn M Stewart served as executive producer.
Tonantzin Esparza and Maya’s executive vice-president Jose Martinez Jr negotiated the deal with Alumbra Films and Towerhill Entertainment’s Shaun Reddick.
“This is a very important movie for me. I’m glad Maya Entertainment is a part of it,” Maya founder and co-chair Moctesuma Esparza said. “Franc. as a director has a gripping style. I have long wanted to work with him since I saw his debut film Empire.”
