Vietnamese exhibitor MegaStar Media has opened its fifth multiplex in Vietnam, in the central coastal city of Danang.
Situated in the new shopping mall, Vinh Trung Plaza, the cinema has six screens and 854 seats, which brings MegaStar's total screen count to 36.
The exhibitor, which is a joint venture between Envoy Media Partners and Vietnam's Phuong Nam Corporation, plans to open two more complexes in Ho Chi Minh City by the end of this year.
This will give the company 51 screens at seven locations. One of the two Ho Chi Minh City complexes will be Vietnam's first luxury 'MegaStar Gold' theatre which will be part of the Saigon Paragon shopping centre opening in October 2008.
Since opening its first multiplex in Hanoi in April 2006, MegaStar has helped fuel first-run box office growth in Vietnam from around $2m a year to more than $12m projected for 2008.
