DeepaMehta's Waterhas crossed the C$2m ($1.75m)threshold at the Canadian box office.
Released on Nov 4, 2005, the film has played in more than 115 theatres andcontinues its run on 12 screens.
Featuring Bollywood stars Lisa Ray and John Abraham and shot in Hindi, theperiod film was recently nominated for nine Genie Awards, including best filmfor producer David Hamilton and direction and original screenplay for Mehta.
Water is set for US release on Apr 28through Fox Searchlight, the distributor's first Canadian acquisition.
International sales agent Celluloid Dreams has sold to 30 territories,including Germany, Australia, France, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Russia, and Brazil.
Water is the second Mehta title to cross C$1m after 2003's Bollywood/Hollywood took C$1.5m. Both titles arehandled by Toronto-based Mongrel Media.
