Promo reel to launch at EFM.
Memento Films International has acquired Pen-ek Ratanaruang’s Headshot, currently in post-production.
Produced by Pawas Sawatchaiyamet and Raymond Phathanavirangoon, the film follows a Bangkok hitman who is shot in the head during an assignment, wakes up after a two-month coma and finds that he sees everything upside down. Back at his job, the new condition leads him to begin doubting what he does for a living, until he meets a mysterious girl who turns his world even more upside down.
MFI, which is also co-producing, will launch international sales with a promo-reel at the European Film Market.
The company is further reteaming with production company Archipel 35 on Swiss director Ursula Meier’s follow up to Home, which ran in Critics Week in 2008. L’Enfant D’En Haut is a drama set in the Swiss Alps which begins shooting in mid-February.
At Berlin, Memento will have three films in official selection: Asghar Farhadi’s A Separation, Angelo Cianci’s Top Floor, Left Wing and Aditya Assarat’s Hi-So.
The company’s lineup also includes Laurent Cantet’s big-budget English-language debut, Foxfire, adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’ novel and currently in pre-production; Dominik Moll’s The Monk with Vincent Cassel and Pawel Pawlikowski’s The Woman in The Fifth with Ethan Hawke and Kristin Scott Thomas.
Also upcoming from MFI is Sponsoring, directed by Malgorzata Szumowska, produced by Marianne Slot and starring Juliette Binoche; and Wash Westmoreland and Richard Glatzer’s Hello Darkness, which begins shooting in March and starring Imogen Poots, Julie Christie and Dominic Cooper.
