Alan Jonsson Gavica’s Spanish drama Morenita (pictured) has won the sixth Bahamas International Film Festival’s New Vision Award.

Josh Crook’s action film La Soga from the Dominican Republic took the narrative Spirit Of Freedom prize and Katrina Browne’s US film Traces Of The Trade won corresponding documentary honours.

Marc Brummund’s German entry Gaining Ground won the award for best short film. Competition winners were announced at the Balmoral Club in Nassau by festival founder and executive director Leslie Vanderpool and competition jurors.

As previously announced Johnny Depp collected a career achievement award. All in all 86 films from 26 countries including 38 features are screening at the festival, which runs until December 17.
